MFM football club, on Sunday, defeated Spartans FC 3-1 in the final of the 2017 Lagos State FA Cup played at the Agege Stadium.
Goals from Chukwuka Onuwa, Stanley Okorom and Sikiru Olatunbosun secured the silverware they won in 2016, while Sulaiman Oyedele scored Spartans’ consolation goal.
Spartans offered the Nigerian topflight no respect in their dealing often troubling the defensive partnership of Austin’s Opara and Mosuru Bashiru with long balls.
In the 14th minute the amateur side, however, went ahead through Onuwa.
The diminutive attacking midfielder got on to the end of a well-laid pass at the edge of the Spartans area and connected with a low effort that deflected off a defender to leave Abdulazeez Adamu stranded.
Minutes after MFM survived a scare, Chijioke Akuneto broke the offside trap only to see his lofted effort calmly collected by Adamu.
Spartans’ hard work was rewarded in the 24th minute after Oyedele outwitted the entire MFM defence to tap a leveller in past Abayomi Folarin.
After the restart, Olatunbosun almost restored MFM lead but saw his low effort skimmed past Abdulazeez left post.
With 20 minutes left in the match, MFM retook the lead after right back Okorom netted from the spot. And Olatunbosun rounded off the win with a beauty to help the Olukoya Boys defend the state championship, Goal.com reports.
