On Tuesday, hundreds of protesters of Nigeria’s Islamic Movement, also known as Shiites, stormed the National Assembly and shot a policeman and civil defense officer.
The gates to the National Assembly have been shut.
Our correspondent learned that the dreaded Shiite members were overpowering the policemen at the gate, collected one of their guns and shot the two security officers.
They entered the main entrance popularly known as MOPOL gate and vandalised the gatehouse, burnt three vehicles and destroyed many others.
When tear-gas canisters were fired to disperse them, the sect members unleashed terror on other security operatives.
The gates to all the premises of the National Assembly were shut as staffs and other accredited persons vacated the premises to save their lives.
As of the time this report was filed, visitors to the federal parliament were denied entrance into the premises.
