Christian Association of Nigeria has said it stands with Biodun Fatoyinbo the founder of the Commonwealth Zion Assembly, in the midst of allegations of rape against him.
Busola Dakolo, the wife of Timi Dakolo, who claimed that when she was a teenager, Fatoyinbo, the COZA pastor who leads churches in Abuja, Lagos, Ilorin, Port Harcourt, and Dubai, raped her. However, he denied the allegations and went on an absence leave.
But a video, widely shared on social media on Monday, showed CAN officials during COZA’s Sunday service, declaring their support for the embattled pastor.
Rev. Jonah Samson, Chairman of CAN, Federal Capital Territory, and Rev. Israel Akanji, Chairman of CAN’s North Central Zone, who both addressed the congregation to loud cheers, said the association is standing with COZA and its pastor.
Samson said, “It’s a pleasure to be here, and I assure you all that we’re with you and we will always be with you. We are in support of the church. We are insupport of your pastor. We’re standing by him and this church will keep marching forward. I say and I declare that the gates of hell will never prevail in any church in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.”
In the address, Akanji stated that he had an obligation to give Fatoyinbo his support.
He said, “I could be living in Nasarawa State, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, or Plateau State. I might have been a chairman residing in any of those locations, but I am currently living in Abuja through God’s mercy.
“How can I and then the chairman of the FCT (CAN) know that there’s one church that God has a plan and purpose to go through this Jerusalem-Jericho road and then we’re going to walk away? We’re not going to do something like that. As he said, we’re here just to let you know that we’re in prayer with you.
“The Lord will bring you out even stronger. Our pastor here, by God’s grace, will continue to be God’s voice to proclaim the mysteries of Jesus Christ to all the nations of the world. So we pray for the Lord to stand by you and we want you to know you’re not alone.. You have many brothers and sisters praying for you.”
