As part of his commitment towards the education of the youth of Olorunda LCDA, the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde, today, Monday , distributed GCE forms to the beneficiaries of his 2019 Education Support Program.
The students, in their hundreds, were full of enthusiasm and appreciation towards the Council Boss.
The presentation took place at the Council Chamber and in attendance were members of the Executive and Legislative arms.
In his speech to the beneficiaries, the Chairman encouraged the students to use the opportunity presented by the program to advance their ambition. He said his administration is committed to ensuring secured future for the youth and will continue to do that as occasion demands.
In his words : “Your future is of importance to me. Your success is paramount to me. I want to encourage you to shun violence and vices capable of affecting your future. On our part as government, we shall keep supporting you because the future of this nation belongs to you.”
Speaking further, Hon. Samola, as he is fondly called emphasized the importance of education. On this he said, “Education is the fastest means towards actualising one’s dream in life. There may be other ways to success. I do not argue that. However, the fastest means to success still remains education and I use this opportunity to advise you to take your education as a priority.”
The Chairman went further to say : “A nation with vision must not joke with the youth. We believe in you and we want you to believe more in yourself. Don’t get discouraged in life. Success does not come easy. You have to work for it. I want to assure you that you shall succeed and your efforts will be crowned with success.”
Meanwhile, as United Nations observes World Youth Skills Day today( July 15 is dedicated to observing this day ), the Council Boss also used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of skills acquisition to those present at the occasion.
Skill acquisition has become a potent weapon with which to tackle social vices. Today, there are 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 years, accounting for 16 per cent of the global population. This youth bracket needs to be constantly engaged. Failure to do this, they may serve as a threat towards achieving global sustainable development.
Commemorating the day, the Chairman advised the beneficiaries : “You are in the age bracket where you need to also develop your skills. Skill acquisition is one way with which to develop yourself. It is good you get yourself educated but formal education with skill acquisition will not only make you holistic but become relevant in the ever – changing world. I encourage you all to look towards that direction also.”
The occasion was also graced by the Vice – Chairman and Supervisor for Education, Hon. Bamgbose Olufemi, Secretary to the Local Government, Mr Odu Joseph and Leader of the House, Hon. Idowu Awotunde.
