…..Urges Residents on proper dispose of waste.

Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Authority has begun with the desilting and evacuation of waste from canals to prevent the community from flood in this rainy season.

The desilting and evacuation by the environmental services of the Local Government started from the Apakun end of the carnal and would be done through the long length of the carnal to Oshodi road point.

Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse Ariyoh who inspected the ongoing work with the Secretary to the local government, Hon. Abiola Oladipupo, Supervisory councilor for Environment, Hon. Yusuf Adesanya and Head of department of environmental services Mr. Akeem Adeoye and members of his administration was satisfied with the level and progress of the work done, advised the residents to desist from dumping of refuse indiscriminately which are hindrance to the free flow of flood through the drainages which subsequently cause major havoc in the community resulting into flooding.

According to the council Chairman, ” I am pleased with the job done so far by the officers of the environmental services but this waste has to be carted away immediately to avoid it spilling back into the carnal.

“I implore our people not to see drainages as a place to dump refuse because the aftermath effect can be so severe ”

He also assured the residents that the Local Government would commence desilting of drainages within the communities soon and urged residents to be a partner in ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment is realized.

Some residents within the community and traders of Apakun plank members commended the Local Government for the proactive action which brings relief by removing their nightmare whenever rainfalls and urged the local government boss to do same on some of their roads.

The deslitation continues while evacuation of the waste would follow few days after the completion of the exercise.

Last week, during a meeting with stakeholders in Oshodi-Isolo, Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse Ariyoh assured the leaders that his administration would take some steps to prevent floods in oshodi community and road maintenance committee would commence action on roads when the rain subsided.
