The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress {APC} in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, has called on National leader of the All Progressives Congress {APC} Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intercede over the non-inclusion of a representative from AJIF LGA in Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s cabinet nominee list.

In a statement delivered by Barrister Hakeem Garba at a press conference organized by the youth organ of AJIF APC on Friday, reads in parts: “It was to our utmost displeasure over the recent lists of Commissioners/Special Advisers that were forwarded to the House of Assembly by the Governor which had no one nominated from AjeromiIfelodun Local Government. When the initial list was released more than four weeks ago, we thought we were going to be considered in the second list, but to our utter dismay, no person from Ajeromi-Ifelodun was listed neither in the first nor in the 13 names made public on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 which was termed as the “final list” by the Governor’s media aide.

“Moreover, the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended, Chapter 2, section 14, sub-section 4, stipulates that “The composition of the State, Local Government Council or any agency of such Government or council, and the conduct of affairs of the Government or council or such agency shall be carried out in such manner to recognise the diversity of the people within the area of authority and the need to promote a sense of belonging and loyalty among all the people of the Federation.”

The statement added further: “The last time we had a cabinet member in Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul was in May 2011 and throughout the second term of Gov. Babatunde Fashola and the only tenure of his successor in office, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode, we had no one representing and fighting for our collective interests as a LG in the Cabinets. Ever since, we have had no new state Government projects with practically no state Government presence. In the build up to the last General Elections, the atmosphere was highly tensed. Our Local Council Development Area was involved in a fracas during the Ward Congresses held in May 2018 that led to the loss of life of a Party faithful,” the statements read.

Corroborating presentations at the press release, APC Youth Leader, Amodu Shakiru said there was a marked difference in development of Ajeromi-Ifelodun from 2006 to 20011, when the local government was represented, and compared to that from 2011 till date when there was no representation from the local government.

According to Amodu Shakiru, “If you juxtaposed these two eras, you will understand the need why we must be heard,” he added.

“That is why the youth organ of the All Progressives Congress is calling on our leaders, we are demanding what is due to us,” he submitted.

The All Progressives Congress {APC} Vice-Chairman in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Comrade Taofeek Goriola Olalekan, was particular on the fact that Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government ‘has never had a voice’ as Commissioner in Lagos State cabinet ever since her creation as a local government.

He was of the opinion that some local governments that were created few years back got three slots in the cabinet nomination list as against AJIF LGA which according to him, was marginalized.

“This is the reason we all came here today to appeal to our national leader in the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look into our plight,” he said.

Comrade Goriola also appealed to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Lagos State APC party Chairman, Tunde Balogun to intercede and proffer a way forward on the matter.

In a bid to boost confidence of members of APC youth wing, Comrade Goriola revealed that leaders of the party in AJIF LGA have intensified efforts at the State level in order to ensure that the local government is represented at the highest ranking of Lagos State administration.

He added: “We’ve taken some steps which some of the youth leaders and some few others here are aware of,” he added.

Rounding off the event after contributions from some youth members, youth leader, Amodu Shakiru said the press conference was organized to complement effort of the LGA representatives and leaders in AJIF on the cabinet list nominees saga.

“The party leaders and LGA executives are not resting on their oars, and we believe that this matter will be resolved in our favour,” he said.
