VETERAN WOLE SOYINKA AT 85; VISIT FEMI ART WAREHOUSE IN BADAGRY


Badagry, the land of history, civilisation, designation for tourism and a one-time slave port, receives Prof. Wole Soyinka who came for a public exhibition and a private viewing at Femi Art Warehouse located at Cele Kerin, Itoga.

The host, Mr. Femi Coker, a creative director and CEO of Femi Art Warehouse said Wole Soyinka’s visit is also in tandem with the celebration of the noble laurel 85th Birthday.

“Primarily, It’s a presentation of the World’s Longest Anthology to him, measuring 85 feet long to commemorate his 85th Birthday Anniversary alongside a showcase of monumental works of art, such as the World’s Tallest Drum, World’s Longest Cap, World’s Largest Map as a tribute to his exceptional accomplishments.” Said Femi

A public exhibition and a private viewing in his honor by Femi Coker, innovator, mixed media artist and culture advocate under the auspices of Femi Art Warehouse was the purpose .of the event.

“Prof celebrated his 85th Birthday in July 13th last month, his visit was to have a private viewing at the centre, while I present the innovative book I wrote on his behalf to him, Femi expressed.

The reputable prof had a stop over at Albert Rising School, Cele Kerin, Itoga were he was received amidst jubilation. Soyinka inspires the students and encourage them to take their education seriously.

Prof. Soyinka was transported with the branded exquisite Badagry City Limousine Tour Cruise.

Wole Soyinka’s full names are: Akinwande Oluwole Soyinka, (born July 13, 1934, Abeokuta, Nigeria), Nigerian playwright and political activist who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1986. From 1960 onward he taught literature and drama and headed theatre groups at various Nigerian

In 2013, Saturday, February 16, Femi Coker unveiled the world’s tallest drum, measuring 11 feet in height and six feet wide in Badagry. This was at the Badagry Heritage Museum, during the celebration of the Black History month in the historical littoral city for the first time.

The brief event ended with a closing remark by Mr Anikulapo Oladejo.
