…Inaugurates New Executive Council Members
The Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon Adedoyin Adesanya yesterday at the annual youth conference held at the council chamber in the council premises unveiled his administration’s immediate and long term plans for the youths of Epe. He said the disbursement of students bursary for 250 students in tertiary institutions all around the country is at an advanced stage and would soon be made public.
He said the selection process will be strictly electronic to ensure transparency and reduce the stress attached to the physical process. He also hinted of an ongoing arrangement with Yaba College of Technology (Epe Campus) and the Lagos Agricultural Youth Empowerment Scheme (AGRIC-YES) to train 100 Epe youths in different Agricultural vocations in order to liberate them from unemployment.
Hon Adesanya who was the chief host of the event urged the youths to have set goals in life and be focused to attain them. He also hinted the gathering that crime rate is reducing in the community which is a positive development that needs to be sustained by all stakeholders.
In his keynote address tagged “Epe 2030: Striking balance between Infrastructure and Human Capital Development”, the Provost of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Dr Nosiru Onibon emphasized the importance of human capital development of youths in Epe in order to produce youths who will be readily available to suit the infrastructural and economic development coming into Epe Division. He advised youths to take up professional disciplines and vocations that will make them key into the companies springing up around the division as professionals rather than as labourers.
The Lead Consultant of 3DK Konsult, Mr Adebowale Folarinwa Baiye who spoke on ” Substance Abuse, saving a Codeine generation”, urged the youths to stay off drugs as it has the potential of destroying their future and reducing their pace in life. He urged the leadership of the youths in the community to work with law enforcement agents to reduce the surge and free flow of “hard drugs” and “off the counter drugs” in the community as the availability and easy access of these drugs encourages consumption.
Mr Adebowale who is also an indigene of Epe and a survivor of drug abuse, promised a tour of selected secondary and tertiary institutions in Epe to help dissuade drug abuse in the community.
Hon Biodun Tobun who represents Epe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly urged the youth body to incorporate all classes of youths in their programs and plans in order to reorientate those who have gone astray as their neglect will become a “pain in the neck” for all members of the community in future. He promised his readiness to support any laudable initiative from the new leadership of the youths as he has done for the outgoing leadership. He also promised to see to the completion of ongoing and abandoned projects in Epe.
The outgoing executive cabinet led by it’s Coordinator, Com. Giwa Moshood Olasupo rolled out their administration’s successes which includes admission for members, training, employment, empowerment, registration of young cooperative farmers among others. He urged the new leadership led by Com. Ladele Ismail to build on their successes.
The conference which also gave room for the display of individual and group talent and was rounded up with the inauguration of the new executives by the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon Adedoyin Adesanya.
The event also had the representative of Olu-Epe in council, High Chief Kadri Odedeogboro, representative of the Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Oriyomi Ayeola, Mr Shabi and other notable dignitaries in attendance.
