The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu is blessed with women of virtue who are influential in administration and politics of the council. To some, they are mere political and administrative nerves who can’t settle for less when it comes to making things work for women in Somolu and beyond, to get across to the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government. They are seen more often, I know them and their roles as I admire their zeal to make the Executive Chairman of Somolu successful in his administraive and political journey.
These women mentioned here are administrative and political associates to the Executive Chairman while Mama EqualRight (the Chairman’s mother) and the beautiful woman at the other room still remains the jewel of inestimable value to my boss, Dullar.
Mrs. Mariam Omotanwa Salawu-Yusuf is the Chairperson of Somolu Local Government. She is close to virtually everyone in the council. With her magnetic smile and soft voice, she makes the Executive Chairman go extra mile for issues bothering on health, children and elderly people in Somolu. Her efforts in sustaining the monthly welfare programme, medical assistant for women and children, are priceless.
When the Chairperson smiles and says “let’s see what we can do about it”, just rejoice because something positive is ‘gonna happen’. She’s a good woman that speak goodies, share goodies and receive goodies too. Her doggedness with the First Lady of Lagos State during the electioneering of Governor Sanwo-Olu is more than energetic as she was and still rooted in the Sanwo-Olu Free Health mission throughout the 57 councils. She was at Aradagun in Badagry, Gbagada and Agege General Hospitals, Ita Elewa in Ikorodu, Eredo in Epe and Ijaiye in Ojokoro for free the health mission. She has the body to be carried, ‘gbe body e!’
Mrs. Yemisi Sobowale is the Council Treasurer of Somolu Local Government. A Certified Accountant with vast knowledge in local government administration. The light skinned financial advisor is always on top of her job in engaging and liaising with the Executive Chairman on finances, revenue and expenses. She checks, balances, confirms and checks again. I prefer to call her ‘Madam Due Process’ because she won’t act on verbal instruction, ‘why don’t you write it’ is her language.
Hon. Abiola Fashoro is known as the ‘iron lady’ and ‘small but mighty’ of Dullar’s cabinet, she refuse to be perceived by her size. A loaded politically oriented woman of many qualities who will conveniently switch from speaking hausa to English, pidgin English and Yoruba to pass messages to suite her audience. She usually go extra mile to make sure expectation of women folks in Somolu as a community is met. ‘Akoi’ as she’s generally called, is politically the Women Leader of APC in Somolu and she’s also in government as the Special Adviser on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA). Akoi can assemble thousands of Somolu women in few minutes, she’s endowed.
As recent input in delivery monthly welfare package to the elderly women and widows has made her the talk of the community as favourite of the elderly citizens. The Executive Chairman can easily go to sleep when he puts Akoi in charge of women folks in Somolu. She’s agile, smart and a goal getter!
Asiwaju (Barr.) Kemi Oshodi is a Lagos State University trained lawyer, a sociable woman with deep knowledge of the grassroot and the local government. Barr. Oshodi is the legal officer of Somolu Local Government and her support to the Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu led council knows no bound. ‘The Legal’ as many call her is one of the committed and loyal women in the administration of Somolu Local Government. Her relentless efforts may be latent to many people but its conspicous to those in government in the area of revenue and litigation in relation to the local government. She’s always seeing legal implication of everything and that is what gets the council growing higher. Thanks, Asiwaju!
Alhaja Kudirat Adetoye (Saudi) is the Welfare Secretary of APC in Somolu and her peace-loving character in solving complex issue has made er a toast of many. She’s a cheerful giver and an unrepentant loyalist to the Executive Chairman for more that a decade now. Her recent input to the monthly welfare programme for the elderly really helped in the area logistics and human power. When given the task of catering for people, Alhaja Saudi is a goal!
Mrs. Abiodun Onisarotu is the Internal Auditor of Somolu Local Government, a religious motherly friend for all. The University of Lagos trained Chatered Accountant wont settle for anything below the layed down standard of her profession. Her act of giving is second to non, ‘do you want it?’ is her language, and you’ll get it. Her cheerfulness won’t make her has nothing to do with her ability to make independent decision. She also has passion for farming, I learnt.
