Former minister of finance under the Chief wOlusegun Obasanjo regime, Jubril Martins-Kuye, is dead.
The self- acclaimed god-father of Ogun state politics reportedly died on Sunday morning at Ago-Iwoye, his hometown, in Ogun state. He was 78.
According to THE PUNCH, who spoke to one of his sons, Bolaji, confirmed his death.
“I can confirm to you that he passed on about 10:05 this morning,” he was quoted as saying.
“It was a painful loss to us, but, we give glory to God for the impactful life that he lived while he was alive because he touched the lives of many people.”
His foray into politics began when he was first elected into public office as a senator in the Third Republic.
The late minister was a member of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in the twilight of the regime of Sani Abacha, former military ruler.
He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogun gubernatorial poll in 1999 but he did not win.
Martins-Kuye also served as minister of commerce under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The self-acclaimed godfather of Ogun politics and chartered accountant served the remainder of the term of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
