D’Tigress Drawn Against USA, Japan in Tough Olympics Group


D’Tigress have been drawn against defending champions, the United States of America, hosts Japan, and France in Group B of the basketball event of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The basketball event of the 2020 summer Olympics will hold from July 26 to August 8 at the Saitama Super Arena, Tokyo.
According to the latest FIBA women’s rankings, the USA are currently ranked first in the world, France is fifth while Japan is ranked 10th.

D’Tigress are rated the 14th best women’s basketball team in the world.
Group A in the women’s category consists of Korea, Serbia, Canada and Spain, while Group C has Australia, Puerto Rico, China and Belgium.

In the men’s category, D’Tigers are in Group B along with Australia and two other teams that are yet to qualify for the competition.

Australia are ranked third in the world while Nigeria are 22nd.
A new format has been introduced to the basketball game of the Tokyo Olympics, with four teams placed in three groups as compared to previous editions that had two groups consisting of six teams.

The teams placed first and second in each group and the second-best third-placed teams in the group phase qualify for the knockout phase.
A draw will be conducted to determine the pairings of the quarter-finals, which will be played on a knockout basis.
