Station armoury looted, inspector killed, as hoodlums attack police station in Abia

Umuoba police station in Isiala Ngwa North local government area has attacked and razed in the early hours of Tuesday morning by suspected hoodlums. killing an inspector , the Abia state Police Command has announced.

According to NAN, Geoffrey Ogbonno, the state police spokesperson, said the station was attacked on Monday at about 3 am.

He explained that the station’s armoury was also broken into, while a policewoman was injured during the attack.

“In the course of that attack, one inspector lost his life, and another policewoman was seriously injured,” he said.

“The hoodlums then broke into the armoury of the police at the station and stole some arms, including the gun of the inspector who was killed.

“They also burnt down the station and the vehicles parked in the premises, including one of our serviceable patrol vans.Advertisement

“The body of the inspector has been taken to the mortuary, while the policewoman is being treated.”

Ogbonna said the police in Abia had begun investigation to discover the cause of the attack, and urged residents to be on the lookout for intruders and unknown faces.

He also called on hoteliers to provide information on suspicious activities of guests and promised to protect persons who volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.
