Annual Badagry festival to hold August 20 and 27

The Annual Badagry Festival is scheduled to hold between August 20 and 27.

Babatunde Mesewaku, the Chief Organiser of the event, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Badagry on Thursday that the theme of this year’s edition is: “African Diaspora and the Future of Africa.”

Mesewaku said: “This year’s edition is going to be different from the previous ones because we have different events that will be lined up for the week-long fiesta.

“There will be a seminar for the youths, a boat regatta, a tour round the various museums and the grand finale, amongst others.

“We also have a big surprise for the people this year. “So they should all look forward to this year’s edition.”

Mesewaku, who is also the president, African Renaissance Foundation, disclosed that this year’s edition would also commemorate activities to celebrate Lagos State at 50.

He said: “The Lagos State Government is therefore partnering with the foundation to also use the 2016 edition of the festival to mark activities to celebrate Lagos State at 50 in Badagry.”

He added that the audience would be adequately thrilled “because they have a lot to look forward to during the 2016 fiesta”.

Mesewaku, therefore, urged Nigerians from all parts of the country to support the festival.
