Another Goodbye: Game of Thrones star, Lady Olenna (Dame Diana Rigg) dies at age 82

Famous Game of Thrones actress, Dame Diana Rigg, who played the role of Lady Olenna in the movie died September 10th, 2020. The 82-year-old actress was reported to have died of cancer. Her daughter, also an actress, Rachael Stirling confirmed the news stating she was diagnosed with cancer in March. She added that her mother, spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter, and deep pride in her profession.

One of  Dame Diana Rigg’s famous quote as Lady Olenna was when she was speaking to Cersei, saying: “I wonder if you’re the worst person I’ve ever met. At a certain age, it’s hard to recall, but the truly vile do stand out through the years.

Aside from Dame’s role in Game of Thrones, she was also famous for her role as Mrs James Bond. In the 1969 film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Dame played the role of Tracy who married George Lazenby’s 007. She also played the role of Emma Peel in the TV series The Avengers

Fans received the news of her death in sorrow, with thousands of people paying tribute to her.

Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli in their homage said:

“We are very sad to hear of the passing of Dame Diana Rigg, the legendary stage and screen actress who was much beloved by Bond fans for her memorable performance as Tracy di Vicenzo in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the only woman to have married James Bond.” 

A fan, Jak Ball said: “Sad to hear about the death of Dame Diana Rigg. She played one of my favourite characters in Game of Thrones. Lady Olenna had some of the best and most scathing one-liners.”


Another fan, Ada with a Sauce @Adaoby said:

“The Queen of Thorns, Lady Oleanna. Farewell. Now her watch has ended.”
