Isreal Iyanabor, the councillor representing Ward One in Ewohimi, Esan Southeast Local Government Area in Edo Central Senatorial District of the state, has been kidnapped.
The councillor was seized along Ewatto-Ubiaja-Okhuesan Road, near Ena River in Esan Southeast LGA. On the other hand, a pregnant woman , Uju Okwudili, who was kidnapped earlier on Airport Road, Benin, the Edo State capital on Monday, while doing school run, has been released on Wednesday, but it could not be confirmed if the demanded N5 million ransom was paid, before she regained her freedom
Sadly though, a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Aluola, who were abducted on Tuesday at Ewatto in Esan Southeast LGA of Edo state, we’re not so lucky as they have not been released, may be because the couple had not been able to raise the demanded N15 million ransom. The husband is a teacher at Iriwa Primary School, Ohordua in the LGA, while the wife is a petty trader.
Coincidentally, the councillor was kidnapped at the same spot on Ewatto-Ubiaja Road in Esan Southeast LGA of Edo, where the primary school teacher and his wife were kidnapped.
At the time of the kidnap, the councillor was driving along the dreaded Ewohimi Road, when the gunmen suddenly emerged from the forest, thereby opening fire on him, moving him into their den in the forest, with his car abandoned.
When contacted, the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), promised to call back in two hours, but was unable to do so.
