While the nation is awaiting the release of the Kagara school boys, who were kidnapped about a week ago in Niger state, bandits have struck again with another abduction of some school girls in Zamfara.
The Abducted girls are from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara local government area of Zamfara.
According to Thecable who spoke to some Residents, the gunmen invaded the community at midnight.
“They attacked some houses along their way, and headed straight to the school,” Abubakar Jangebe, a resident said.
“They took some of the girls and went into the bush. We don’t know what is happening right now.”
The residents also told Thecable that about 100 girls were kidnapped but are not sure about the exact figures.
“Many parents are on their way to the school now. There should be a headcount as soon as relevant authorities arrive,” Mohammed Ismail, another resident said
When contacted, Muhammed Shehu, police spokesperson in Zamfara, said he will issue a statement on the development later.Advertisement
But Abubakar Dauran, the state commissioner for security and home affairs, confirmed the incident, saying security operatives have been mobilised to the area.
“I can confirm to you now that we have sadly received the report on the abduction of the students of GGSS Jangebe and right now, I am on my way to the school,” he said.
“At this moment, l cannot say how many students were taken away by the gunmen until l get there, but we have already mobilised security men and members of the vigilantè who are now in pursuit of the abductors.”
