British Council Announces Lagos Theatre Festival 2017


The British Council which founded Lagos Theatre Festival has announced it’s 2017 edition of the festival.

The festival was founded as part of the British council’s  ambitions of fostering exchange and collaboration between Nigerian and British artists through the presentation of high-quality Nigerian and British theatre.

The 2017 edition is themed “Rhythm of the City.” The festival is expected to support theatre makers and producers to expand their practice beyond traditional theatre spaces by creating work that responds to any given space.

According to the British council, with 109 shows, 35 companies and 5,500 theatre goers attending in 2016,  Lagos Theatre Festival remains one of the most diverse and exciting events of its kind and will continue to present the best in contemporary and classic work from leading artists.

The 2017 edition is expected to hold between Friday 28 February – Sunday 5 March, 2017. And over 500 artists will gather to present over 100 performances at 20 Venues, spanning 6 days.

The 2017 theme, Rhythm of the City’ was selected to capture through performance, the sounds of Lagos expressed in the comings and goings, the repetitive activities and the music of the city.
