Lagos: Governor’s Tennis Cup to hold this October


The 16th edition of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship has been scheduled to hold between 8 and 22 October, 2016.

Secretary General of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Mrs Gloria Ekwempu, who disclosed this, said the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has listed the annual tournament on its website.

According to her, preparation to hold the tournament which comprises of two legs; Futures 3 and Futures 4 has since commenced as the NTF and the Local Organising Committee, LOC, headed by Chief Pius Akinyelure will leave nothing to chance to ensure that the event is organised to meet up with international standards.

Tournament Director of the competition, Prince Wale Oladunjoye who corroborated, the NTF scribe, said new packages will be added to this year’s competition.

The Governor’s Cup is an ITF Pro Circuit competition, which is being staged to celebrate the sitting Governor of Lagos State since the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This year’s edition will be the second since Governor Akinwunmi Ambode assumed office.

Last year, 17-year-old French lady, Tessah Andrianjaftrimo and Aldin Setkic of Bosnia won Futures 3 women and men’s singles respectively, while Dutchman Antal Van Der Duim and Conny Perrin of Switzerland respectively won the men and women’s singles of the second leg in December.
