Lagos State Government has warned that field officers of the Central Business Districts caught taking bribes, collecting graft or indulging in vices capable of tarnishing the image of government would be summarily dismissed.
Mr. Agboola Dabiri, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Central Business Districts (CBD), who gave the warning recently at the commencement of an enforcement and compliance campaign by his Office, admonished field officers, volunteer corps and other members of staff to desist completely from collecting bribes and grafts in their own interest as anyone caught will face the wrath of government.
According to him, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is determined to ensure that CBD attains the much desired international standard as obtained in developed cities of the world, as such any official caught conniving with traders, transporters or other stakeholders to undermine efforts of the State government will not only be dismissed but equally prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
“The only meaningful way for officers to reciprocate the gesture and yeoman’s efforts of government at turning the fortune of the CBD around for the better is to raise their performance level and be totally committed rather than being a clog in the wheel of progress. Your constant watch-word should be strong resistance to display of goods on the walkway, zero tolerance to illegal parking and encouragement of clean surroundings in the area and environs”, he added.
On Street trading law of the State, Dabiri explained that the law is still in force and equally applicable in all CBD axis, stressing that both sellers and buyers are liable if apprehended. Penalties for contravention include fines, forfeiture of goods and jail term upon conviction by the State Mobile Courts.
Recall that since the commencement of the present administration, the Central Business Districts in the State have undergone major transformation which saw the Lagos Island CBD wearing a new look with significant beautification and paintings.
