Government Girls College, Mabera, has been shut down by the Sokoto state government following the outbreak of cholera disease in the state.
Announcing the closure of the school is Kulu Haruna, the state commissioner for science and technology, saying the move was done to curtail the spread of the disease and subsequently address the situation.
According to sources, thirty students were said to have been infected with the disease with no figure now increased to 70.
the commissioner however said that only 20 students are currently at the isolation centre, while others have been treated and discharged.
She said the 20 isolated students will remain in the school until they are stabilised.
The commissioner, however, denied claims that the school operated under unhygienic conditions, and added that more health workers have been deployed to address the situation.
She also explained that no teacher has been infected.
