Road Construction: Lagos delivers 83.92km in 1yr


Lagos State Government says it has completed the construction of 83.92km of roads across the State in the last 12 months.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Temidayo Erinle, disclosed this at the ongoing Y2017 Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the second year in office of Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s administration.

He said the completed 83.92 kilometres of roads were spread around the three Senatorial districts to ease movement of people and goods across the State, adding that a total of 99.147 kilometres roads are presently being constructed in both the rural and urban areas of the State to complement those already completed.

While informing that the Governor has approved the construction of more roads to ease traffic and improve the economy of the State, the Permanent Secretary stressed that the present administration has also within the last one year completed a total number of five Pedestrian Bridges while three are ongoing at different locations.

Erinle stated that some of the completed roads include the Ajah Flyover; the upgrade of the Freedom road to Admiralty Road in Eti-Osa Local Government; the flyover at Abule-Egba; Upgrade of strategic Arterial & Inner roads in Epe; Ayetoro Road in Alimosho; Ishefun, Camp Davies New market roads in Alimosho as well as the Laybys and Slip roads at Ojodu Berger.

He listed the completed pedestrian bridges to include two-in-one at Ojodu Berger, the Anthony- Gbagada Foot Bridge by Trem; the reconstructed Berger- Cement foot Bridge; the rehabilitated Mile 12 Foot Bridge and the construction of a Steel Bridge at Ojota to complement the existing one.

Erinle averred that, in maintaining the existing roads in the State, the Public Works Corporation worked on 807 roads, delivered over 532 roads and is currently working on over 275 other roads.

On the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, Engr. Erinle maintained that the State government is ready to start rehabilitation of the road any moment approval is given by the federal government since it is a federal road, noting that same applies to Apapa Road.
