The Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Phillips, has warned Electoral Officers to desist from any unprofessional conduct as they discharge their duties in the forthcoming LG elections scheduled for July 22 in Lagos State.
Hon. Justice Phillips, who recently gave the warning while addressing the Electoral Officers deployed to the 57 Local Governments/ Local Council Development Areas of the State at the office of the Commission in Yaba, Lagos, emphasized the commitment of LASIEC to conduct free, fair and credible election.
While stressing that the Commission would not entertain any malpractices, especially manipulation of the electoral process in favour of political party or candidate, she pointed out that the Commission has the responsibility of dictating the pace and showing others the right way of conducting elections, noting however that “the only way to do this is to demonstrate the fear of God by doing what is right.”
She, therefore, reminded the Officers that as Public Servants, many of them still have a long way to go and must not allow anyone to lure them into actions that could truncate their career in the Public Service.
The LASIEC boss assured the Officers that they would be properly remunerated, but noted she would not hesitate to let the full weight of the law descend on anyone who might attempt to sabotage the efforts of the Commission.
