Ikoyi, central Lagos to suffer power outage over fire outbreak

Ikoyi and other parts of central Lagos have been thrown into darkness as a 66MVA power transformer belonging to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) caught fire in the early hours of Thursday at the Alagbon 132/33kv transmission injection sub-station.

The situation was quickly put under control through the combined efforts of firemen from NNPC, Union Bank, Federal Fire Service and Lagos State Fire Service.

According to a statement signed by Godwin Idemudia, general manager, corporate Communications, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, other areas that will suffer outages are Moloney and Keffi.

EKEDC however assured its customers in the affected areas that there was no cause for alarm as measures had already been put in place to sustain power supply to affected areas through back-feeding from alternative power source.

A combined team of engineers and technicians from both EKEDC and TCN  are already on ground to ensure that the Alagbon transmission injection sub-station was fully back in circuit within the shortest possible time.
