The Lagos State Government will need an average of N1tn annually for the next 10 years to meet its infrastructural needs due to population explosion. This is according to the verdict of the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Ganiyu Johnson, who spoke during a project tour of roads in Epe, Ajah, Lekki and Lagos Island on Wednesday.
“We are being proactive because on the average, the state needs at least N1tn annually for the next 10 years to reduce infrastructural deficit,” he said.
According to Mr. Johnson, the state government is already constructing over 30 kilometres of road in different parts of Epe to support economic activities in Lekki, Ajah and Ibeju-Lekki parts of the state.
He said, “What the state government has done, apart from other ongoing projects in other parts of the state is to get Epe ready for the spillover of economic activities in the Lekki, Ajah and Ibeju Lekki areas.
“The Epe area is ready to absorb pressure from the new airport, the deep sea port, Dangote Refinery and the Lekki Free Trade Zone.”
The commissioner also said that the current administration had completed several road projects in parts of the state, adding that some were ongoing, while others would begin soon.
Among current projects the commissioner inspected are the Ajah flyover; Freedom Road, Lekki; Mobolaji Johnson/Bank Road and Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Road in Ikoyi.
