Barring any last-minute hitch, the Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawale is set to dump the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and declare for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The news of his possible defection was let out of the bag by Bashir Ahmad, personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media.
Ahmad gave the hint in a Facebook post on Sunday.
“So Zamfara is back home! Welcome Matawalle,” the Facebook post read.
However, the governor as we speak has not confirmed his rumoured defection to APC, despite speculation of the defection from different quarters and the subsequent denial.
It would be recalled in April, some APC governors visited Matawalle in Zamfara to commiserate with him over the activities of bandits in the state.
The visit of the APC governors was followed by their PDP counterparts in a move to persuade Matawalle from not joining the APC.
Since November 2020, two governors – David Umahi of Ebonyi state and Ben Ayade of Rivers state – elected under the platform of PDP have joined the APC.
Meanwhile, some APC chieftains have been boasting that more PDP governors will join them.
