Following the visit of the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate senator Bola Tinubu to Former President Olusegun Obasanjo the former president says his meeting with the presidential candidate was brotherly rather than political.
The former Lagos Governor and the former president met behind closed doors at the home of the latter in Abeokuta, Ogun state, on Thursday.
In a statement on Saturday, Kehinde Akinyemi, media aide to Obasanjo, quoted his principal as saying that he is dissatisfied with reports about the meeting.
“The discussion during the visit was more brotherly than political,” Obasanjo said.
“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statements on the discussion and those crediting to me statements I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”
Obasanjo added that at the request of Tinubu, he agreed to no statement from either side.
Following the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, said victory is assured for the APC presidential candidate.
The speaker, who was present at the meeting, said Obasanjo made encouraging statements about Tinubu’s aspiration and prayed for the APC candidate.
“What I heard there, what Obasanjo said, the victory of Asiwaju is assured,” Gbajabiamila said.
“Obasanjo spoke at length and we were all happy. He embraced our candidate like a brother, gave him a pat on the back, and prayed for him copiously.”
