Govs Forum of PDP Backs Appeal to Supreme Court

The Governor forum of Peoples Democratic Party has backed its Party and its presidential candidate’s decision in the February 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, to appeal to the Supreme Court’s presidential election petition verdict.

The court upheld the win of the All Progressive Congress presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.

Forum chairman, Mr. Seriake Dickson, also said the judgment stood justice on its head in a statement on Sunday on behalf of his colleague-members.

He added that it could constitute a hog in the wheel of the developing democracy of the nation if not challenged at the apex court.

Dickson, who is also Bayelsa State Governor, said it would also send out wrong signals to the teeming youth and lay a defective moral basis for unborn Nigerian generations.

He said, “After carefully and prudently understood line by line of judgment, we selected several holes and recognized numerous anomalies. If we turn blind eyes, swallow such bile, and applaud that rape of justice, we would do more disservice and moral injustice to our party, our democracy, and Nigerians in general.

“To say the least, the judgment has further painted our judiciary with darker colours, this time alone with an unprecedented tar coat. We are optimistic, however, that the Supreme Court will rewrite that history by ensuring that our judicial archives remove such stains and tar.

He added, “The apex court should understand that its integrity is at stake, and in order to prevent being crushed to particles, it must use all known techniques to save our country and the unborn future of Nigerians from a growth that can further render us a permanent laughing stock among the nations’ comity. And Nigerians are very optimistic that they will correct these mistakes.

“Without any iota of trepidation, it is most important for us to reaffirm once again our undiluted allegiance, deserving assistance and maximum dedication to our excellent party and the presidential ticket from Atiku-Obi. Now and in the future, this is our stand. If we did otherwise, posterity would judge us harshly.
