LAGOS MAINLAND LG BEGINS “OPERATION ZERO TOLERANCE ON STREET TRADING”

…. We want a greener and cleaner environment in Lagos Mainland – LGA Boss warns.

…. Re-assured Market men and women on the imminent re-open of oyingbo market.

In line with the mandate of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at promoting a cleaner, hygienic and aesthetically resplendent environment in the state, as well as ensuring total enforcement of the environmental Sanitation laws, the Authority of Lagos Mainland Local Government in collaboration with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has  commenced ‘Operation Zero Tolerance’ on street trading across Lagos Mainland Local Government Areas starting with the famous Oyingbo Modern Market.

Leading the team from the Local Government is the relentless Executive Chairman, Hon Mrs Omolola Essien. The chairman was accompanied by the suoervisor for environment cun Vice-Chairman; Alhaji Jubril Emilagba, Council’s head of administration; Mr Olusegun Ajagunna, H.O.D Environetal Health Unit; Alhaja Tawakalitu Onikoyi and members of the unit, LMLG youth leader, Mr Rahmon Balogun, Supervisors and the sanitation task force team.

While addressing the Market men and women, the Chairman said ‘’the present administration has declared its resolve towards a greener and cleaner environment, it is therefore important to seek the support of your association and members to key into this vision towards ensuring adequate synergy to completely eradicate street trading, hawking, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other environmental nuisance in Lagos Mainland Local Government as it relates to our market places’’.

Mrs Essien noted with dismay the activities of street traders, displaying of goods on roads walkways, hawking on highways which disturbs the free flow of traffic coupled with littering of dirt on our roads are the reasons the market is locked by the Lagos State Wate Management Authority (LAWMA) and we are working day and night to get the market re-opened for business.
