Nigeria record 684 new cases of covid -19

The total no of Covid-19 cases in Nigeria have risen to 23,298 as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 684 new cases on Friday.

Also on Friday, Five new deaths were recorded bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 554.

There was an increase in the number of confirmed cases reported Friday evening (684) compared to that reported on Thursday (594). The NCDC, in a tweet said the new cases were reported in 19 states with

All the reporting states having recorded at least a case of the virus.

As at the time of filing this report, Thursday, 35 states and the FCT have recorded at least a case of the disease, with Only Cross River yet to officially report any case of the virus.

In the meantime, the COVID-19 status of cross river State is still been emeshed in controversy.

According to a report by premium times, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has indicted three state government with report that a patient had tested positive to coronavirus in the facility despite the fact that NCDC has not announced any confirmed case of COVID-19 in the South-South state.

Expectedly, Lagos recorded the highest daily figure of the infection on Friday and remains the epicentre for the disease in the country.

The 684 new cases were reported from 19 states: Lagos – 259,Oyo – 76, Katsina – 69, Delta – 66, Rivers – 46, Ogun – 23, Edo – 22, Osun – 22, Ebonyi – 21, FCT – 20, Kaduna – 16, Ondo – 10, Imo – 9, Abia – 9, Gombe – 5, Plateau – 4, Bauchi – 4, Ekiti – 2 and Anambra – 1.

“Till date, 23298 cases have been confirmed, 8253 cases have been discharged and 554 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory,” the NCDC wrote.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Nigeria in February, NCDC said 125,090 samples have so far been tested.

As at the time of reporting, there are 14,491 active cases of COVID-19 in the country, while 8,253 have recovered and have been discharged

A breakdown of the 23,298 confirmed cases shows that Lagos State has so far reported 9, 741 cases, followed by FCT – 1,676, Kano – 1,191, Oyo – 1, 264, Rivers – 982, Edo – 873, Delta – 781, Ogun – 756, Kaduna – 684, Katsina – 528, Bauchi – 497, Gombe – 487, Borno – 477, Jigawa – 317, Plateau – 298, Abia – 297, Ebonyi – 285, Imo – 278, Kwara – 217, Ondo – 216, Enugu – 202, Nasarawa – 198, Bayelsa – 184, Sokoto – 140, Osun – 106, Niger – 84, Akwa Ibom – 83, Zamfara – 76, Kebbi – 71, Anambra – 70, Adamawa – 73, Yobe – 56, Benue – 47, Ekiti – 40, Taraba – 19, and Kogi – 3.
