It would be recalled in the inaugural speech delivered by the Executive Chairman of The Golden Council, Hon. Adele Elijah Owolabi tagged his vision/mission agenda as ‘ELEVEN SIGN POST’ and ‘YEESWHIWAT’ for good governance in which empowerment and poverty alleviation would be his policy thrust. The Chairman reflected sincerity of purpose, transparency and accountability by partnering with Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) through presentation of minimum of Two hundred thousand naira(N200,000) each to successful applicants at the council’s Multi purpose Hall, Secretariat, Apapa.
Adele urged the beneficiaries to be prudent and wisely invest in profitable ventures that will effect multiplier out-turn on the economy. According to him; he had prayed earlier that if God gives him the opportunity to ascend the position of authority he will carry many people along.
The Council helmsman stated that after deep thought of weighing the cost benefit of pilgrimage to entrepreneurship, he invariably and convincingly preferred the latter. He enjoined the beneficiaries to be dedicated and faithful to their businesses and not to lavishly spend on frivolous sundries. He charged them to engage on things that will add value to their existence.
Adele went further to state that with keen observation, he finally resolved that women by their disposition are more economical, prudent and judicious than men, therefore going by this he appealed to the womenfolk to vindicate him and prove that they are more enterprising and industrious than men. And that he wants the loans to be all inclusive by increasing the counter funding from N20m to N30m since the Local Government’s allocation would be coming to them directly.
The Acting Executive Secretary, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Mrs Teju Abisoye while addressing the beneficiaries applauded the Chairman for his interest in ensuring equity and fair play in the distribution of the loans and enlarging the base among different strata of his, jurisdiction through partnership with their organization. She urged beneficiaries to be up and doing through prompt repayment of the loans and interests and also advised them to be good ambassadors that would act as catalyst to prospective beneficiaries so that the program would be sustained and that they stand better chance of graduating to higher level.
Important personalities presented cheques to successful applicants. After which, they were given opportunity for questions and answers.
The Supervisor for Agriculture said it may be too early to thank the beneficiaries but decided to suspend it not until they scale the huddles of repayment. However, he was elated with their turn out and willingness to take risk.
The representatives of LSETF were acting ES Mrs Teju Abisoye; Head Government Relations, Mr Olusola Gbenle; Acting Director Programs, Mr Adewumi Oni.
