In the video footage, Police Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Simon Lough, said the convict was a pastor whom the girl, as a member of his church, looked up as a father.

Lough said the court sentenced the pastor to 12 years’ imprisonment.

“He was given 7years in prison for the first count of rape ; while he was given 5years in prison for the second count of attempted abortion,” he said.

Recently, Buhari stressed the need for relevant stakeholders, particularly the police, to be engaged in handling cases of sexual assault in society.

She specifically called on police Inspector-General Mohammad Adamu and other stakeholders to ensure that more severe penalties are imposed on rapist, particularly those who rape underage children.
