Rescued Kankara schoolboys arrive in Katsina

The rescued Kankara schoolboys have arrived in Katsina state.

Ekocitymagazine, yesterday reported the release of the over 300 school boys

It would be recalled that gunmen abducted over 300 schoolboys from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina, last week Friday.

The schoolboys were subsequently taken to Zamfara forest from where they were released by their abductors on Thursday — after spending nearly seven days in captivity.

After their release, the children were said to have been transported into the state capital on Friday morning by security operatives and have undergone medical examination.

Aminu Masari, governor of Katsina, received the boys and he is currently addressing them at the government house.

In the mist of these all, Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the abduction, but Masari swifly disputed their claim, saying bandits were responsible for the attack and that the state government knew the abductors of the schoolboys.

However, according to Thcable, top government official said on Thursday that 340 schoolboys were released.

It is however unclear if a ransom was paid to be secure their freedom, but Masari said no ransom was paid.
